Dr. Rice has completed training in a variety of counseling and therapy techniques including art and expressive therapies. She also completed specialized training in trauma and human resiliency in Prague, Czech Repulic and received her specialist certificate in contemplative practice utilizing mindfulness and meditative therapies in Phuket, Thailand. She pulls from her therapy education, as well as her knowledge of brain science, to comprehensively treat her counseling patients.
In addition to treating those with brain injuries, severe mental illness, addiction and disordered eating, Dr. Rice has counseled those struggling with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), insomnia, grief, identity crisis, spiritual crisis, personality dysfunction and a variety of neurologically and organically based brain illnesses.
Dr. Rice sees patients ages 16 years and older for individual counseling/therapy. Dr. Rice begins all counseling relationships with a comprehensive background interview and an assessment of personality function. Personality function is integral to understanding the lens through which a person views their world and relationships. Dr. Rice recognizes that we are all dynamic organisms formed by past experiences. She utilizes a developmental and scientific, brain-based approach, with the goal of assisting each individual to identify their unique needs and utilize their strengths to achieve wellness.
Dr. Rice sees couples for both premarital counseling, as well as during times of growth and/or relational difficulties. She works with couples to identify their unique relational dynamics and assess their ability and willingness to meet both their individual and partners needs with the ultimate goal to preserve and enhance the relationship.
Dr. Rice works with families to understand unique family dynamics with the goal to improve communication and reduce daily conflicts. She does this by helping families to build empathy and improve boundaries while ensuring the parents are leading the family.
